I used to learn about golf 15 years ago and start to play it 10 years ago, but actively playing 5 years, only. I made decision to play golf due to my business trips, golf is good game to network, be in nature, stay healthy and relax.

Golf

Golf is very popular sport (around 70 million people are playing golf worldwide) and many players are even collecting accessories and souvenirs related to golf. Lot’s of companies are innovating balls, clubs, gadgets, golf courses and tools to make game more joyful, easy to learn and professional. Some players are collecting balls, ball markers, divot tools, hat clips and even pencils from different golf courses and tournaments.

Golf itself is aristocratic and expensive game; membership to golf clubs are expensive (up to $ 1 million USD), trainings and games are expensive and even tools can be very expensive (set of clubs can be up to hundreds of thousands of USD). In any cases there are options to learn and play golf not so expensive (clubs for $100 USD, membership $50 USD per month, 25 ball basket key $50 USD per month and course membership for $100 USD per month).

In any cases learning to hit the ball in driving range, taking some courses from professionals and playing alone in small, 9 hall golf courses before joining group and playing in 18 hall courses is good idea (rules are ethics are important, too and good manner, if you wear right clothes in a right way).

So, what does it mean to have 4,4 handicap and how I got it? According to Wikipedia – “A golf handicap is a numerical measure of a golfer’s potential that is used to enable players of varying abilities to compete against one another. Better players are those with the lowest handicaps”.

According to USGA official website “1. In order to establish and maintain a Handicap Index, a player must be a member of an authorized golf club. 2. In order to establish a Handicap Index, a total of 54 holes must be played and posted to your scoring record. These scores can be made up of any combination of 9- or 18-hole rounds. 9-hole scores are combined in the order that they are received to form 18-hole Score Differentials™ that are used to calculate your Handicap Index”. BTW; be sure to play in courses which are more than 1500 yards for 9 hole courses and 3000 yards for 18 holes.

I did it all and here is my handicap – 4.4 (Some statistics about world handicaps are available here). I am not sure, if I can get such elite and professional handicap again, but it was hard work and I did it years ago.

BTW; some golf courses are very beautiful, like pice of art, green oasis inside of even most expensive megacities, inside of concrete jungles and business districts.
